Determining what actually constitutes a sustainable or eco friendly building can often be difficult. GML Construction works hard to produce truly sustainable developments and actively supports the BRE’s Environmental Assessment Method.
BREEAM is a tool that allows the owners, users and designers of buildings to review and improve environmental performance throughout the life of a building.
It is a widely accepted and respected scheme that sets a benchmark for environmental performance and provides a wide range of benefits.
It is independent and authoritative, being based on many years of construction and environmental research carried out at BRE together with the input and experience of the construction and property industries, Government and building regulators
Assessments are carried out at the two following stages: Design and procurement
At the design stage, for new build or refurbishment projects. Post construction
A review of the design stage assessment at the post construction stage ensuring all BREEAM issues specified are implemented. There are seven main sections contained within the assessment which are:
- Health and Wellbeing
- Energy
- Transport
- Water
- Material and Waste
- Land use and Ecology and Pollution
